Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a combination of reggaeton and pop that not only drew attention to Latin Music but as well reggaeton. The Billboard Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish language, while in 2016 there were four. In 2017, at the height of popularity for Despacito, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish made it to the Top 100. In 2020, there will be 41 hits within this genre. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix to Despacito (2017) well-known musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton musicians, such as Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna with Maluma in Medellin (2019). The mainstreaming of reggaeton was an issue for certain performers during the year 2020. Rauw alejandro and a young generation, however, were keen to keep the look. It often blended elements from electronic dance music as well as other forms.
