She loved performing since she was a child and would jump at the opportunity to dance and sing on stage. As a child her parents taught her dance classes and she studied at the Santa Monica Playhouse. In the year 1996, she received the role of a guest on the TV drama Party of Five. As she was admitted to New York University by Kate Hudson, her goal was to pursue a job in the show business and not get the degree. After a few minor roles in films, she was offered the role that would turn out to be a turning point in her professional career. She was cast as Penny Lane in the comedy-drama film Almost Famous. The film was a failure at the box office however it received good review from critics. It established Kate as an actor in the American film industry.
